Medicare Open Enrollment Is Here! Review Your 2027 Coverage Before December 7

Medicare Open Enrollment: October 15 – December 7, 2026
Changes made during this period generally take effect January 1, 2027.

Medicare Open Enrollment is officially underway! Now is the time to review your current coverage and make sure you're prepared for the year ahead.

Whether you've been enrolled in Medicare for years or you're helping a loved one navigate their options, this annual enrollment period is an important opportunity to evaluate your coverage.

And while December 7 may seem far away, don't wait until the last minute to get started.

Why Review Your Medicare Coverage Every Year?

One of the biggest misconceptions about Medicare is that once you've selected a plan, there's no reason to revisit it unless something goes wrong.

But Medicare Advantage and prescription drug plans can change from year to year.

Even if you're happy with your current coverage, changes for 2027 could affect:

  • Monthly premiums: What you pay for your coverage each month.

  • Prescription drug coverage: Which medications are covered, their costs, and participating pharmacies.

  • Doctor and hospital networks: Whether your preferred healthcare providers participate in your plan.

  • Copays and deductibles: What you pay when receiving healthcare services.

  • Additional benefits: Changes to dental, vision, hearing, and other benefits offered by certain Medicare Advantage plans.

A plan that worked well for you in 2026 may still be your best choice for 2027—but it's worth taking the time to find out.

What Can You Do During Medicare Open Enrollment?

During the Annual Open Enrollment Period, eligible Medicare beneficiaries can generally:

  • Switch from one Medicare Advantage plan to another.

  • Switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan.

  • Return to Original Medicare from Medicare Advantage.

  • Join, switch, or drop a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan, subject to applicable eligibility and coverage rules.

Changes made during this enrollment period generally become effective January 1, 2027.

This annual enrollment period is different from the Initial Enrollment Period for individuals who are first becoming eligible for Medicare.

Why Start Early?

Every year, some Medicare beneficiaries wait until the final days of Open Enrollment to review their options.

Unfortunately, waiting can create unnecessary stress.

Starting early gives you time to review your current coverage, understand any changes for 2027, check your prescription medications and preferred healthcare providers, and ask questions before making a decision.

Remember: The goal isn't necessarily to change your plan. It's to make sure you're making an informed decision about your coverage.
